Why Fans of “9-1-1” Believe a Buck and Eddie Romance Could Occur in Season 8

For years, fans have hoped that 9-1-1’s Evan “Buck” Buckley and Eddie Diaz would develop their friendship into something more, and some believe that season 8 may be the time.

When Ryan Guzman, who plays Eddie on the show, joined the Station 118 crew in season 2, the “Buddie” obsession got underway. As Buck (Oliver Stark) spun around in slow motion to see the (shirtless) novice for the first time, the character was introduced to the Salt-N-Pepa song “Whatta Man.” Despite some early conflict, they soon became friends and have only gotten closer as the seasons have gone by.

Fans noted that the Buck and Eddie programming increased when 9-1-1 switched networks from Fox to ABC in 2023. Even though Eddie still identifies as straight, Buck came out as bisexual in the 100th episode of season 7, yet there is still hope for a romantic Buddie. In the meantime, Stark and Guzman have frequently spoken on their cherished chemistry over the years.

It’s reciprocal, isn’t it? In an April episode of the podcast “I’ve Never Said This Before,” Stark stated, “I definitely see that as a potential story.” “I’m not sure what will happen to Eddie’s character. However, I also believe that you should proceed with caution because I don’t want to share a scenario in which [a] guy comes out and all of his male pals say, “Aw, so what, you got a crush on me?” Like, I want to share that story with caution.

“I get asked, ‘Will it happen?’” he added. [constantly], rather than asking, “Do I want it to happen?” he said. However, I get asked, ‘Is it going to happen?’ I constantly say, “I’m not sure.” The show is not written by me. However, I’m also unsure about the question, “Do I want it to?” Of course, if [showrunner] Tim [Minear] determines that [is] the most truthful approach to go forward with the tale, I’m game.

The “ultimate goal,” in Guzman’s opinion, is to maintain the “connection” between Buck and Eddie as strong as it has always been, especially now that Buck is navigating a new phase of his life with his 9-1-1 returns to ABC in March 2025, he exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this year. Scroll down to see all the reasons why viewers believe that Buck and Eddie’s romance may be on the horizon for the remainder of season 8:

“Buck, Bothered, Bewildered” from Season 7 of The Jealousy Arc will go down in 9-1-1 history as the episode in which Buck comes to terms with his LGBT identity. The remainder of the show gave some viewers the impression that Buck was truly coming to terms with his romantic feelings for Eddie, even if the hour finished with him sharing a passionate and amazing kiss with Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.). Ultimately, he devoted the majority of his time to competing for the attention of his best friend. (For instance, he may lift the largest weights he could find in an attempt to get Eddie’s attention, even at the risk of getting hurt.)

At the time, Stark told Us, “I think it’s almost a feeling of searching or uneasiness, not necessarily with Eddie, but within himself.” “And sometimes it’s easier to blame that on someone else rather than having to ask yourself, ‘Hey, what am I actually feeling here?'”

Stark pointed out that although Buck’s “searching” eventually shows out in his enduring friendship with Eddie, there was more going on behind the scenes.

“I believe you truly realise it’s not necessarily that after seeing the show. He simply doesn’t fully comprehend his feelings,” he remarked. “And while it may not be the primary source of his uneasiness, this jealousy [with Eddie] is how it shows up.”

Even though Buck’s relationship with Tommy turned out to be pretty lovely, people still remember those times when he was in dire need of Eddie’s love, and they are a significant plot point for season 8.

Eddie and Buck Have Never Been Closer
Although there was less Buck and Eddie content in seasons five and six, the “Buddie” content returned in full force in seasons seven and eight following the network switch from Fox to ABC. The sitcom makes it a point to set aside time for their friendship, and the two usually appear together on screen in some way in every episode. The two are always exchanging life events, from celebrating Eddie’s son Christopher’s (Gavin McHugh) birthday to becoming mind-numbingly intoxicated together.sexual orientation.considerably, leading some to wonder if a romance plot line for them was indeed in the works.
