What Patrick Dorgu Said to Referee During Man United 4-1 Real Sociedad

Supporters have varied opinions about a pivotal moment that occurred during Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad on Thursday night featuring new signing Patrick Dorgu. Thanks in large part to a hat-trick from Bruno Fernandes and a fantastic performance from adolescent Ayden Heaven, the Red Devils advanced to the Europa League quarterfinals.

Furthermore, the new left-wing back, Patrick Dorgu, performed admirably. The Danish international got sent off against Ipswich Town, making his debut at the Theatre of Dreams uneventful. But, as his team earned their second penalty of the match and looked to have secured a third, he posed a significant threat to the Spaniards. However, after Hamari Traore fouled him, some fans are disputing his actions.

Dorgu advises the referee against imposing a penalty.
The player’s actions have drawn both praise and criticism.

As the game was drawing to an end and the home team held a slight lead, Dorgu and Traore engaged in a 50-fifty challenge inside the penalty area. The referee signalled the spot as the United player slumped to the deck, looking to win. Replays seemed to show that Traore, who almost missed the game because of visa issues, got the tiniest touches on the ball, even though it initially looked like VAR would maintain the on-field decision.

However, as shown in the video above, Dorgu appeared to instruct official Benoit Bastien not to apply the penalty, which resulted in the decision being overturned. This might have cost Captain Fernandes his treble, but he would win it seconds later in a powerful comeback.

Social media users had mixed opinions about the decision; one supporter described it as “refreshing to see,” while others claimed that, in other circumstances, it was a risk that would have cost United the match.

Amorim Responds to Referee Dorgu’s Remarks
The United manager expressed his pride in his defender.

United manager Ruben Amorim talked about his thoughts on the incident and praised Dorgu for making the right choice during his post-game news conference following the victory. However, he admitted that his views would have been different if his team hadn’t been winning.

It fluctuates. It’s the right thing to do, so I’m incredibly proud of him,” the Portuguese coach remarked. “I react the same way whether we win or lose.

“He did a great job. He was capable of competing in our league and was physically fit for that role.

United will now take on French superpower Lyon in the round of eight in an attempt to preserve their slim aspirations of competing in the Champions League the following season.
