We have a Houston, Noble and Richards depart
Dan Houston was acquired by Collingwood today as part of a three-way trade that also involved Port Adelaide and the Gold Coast SUNS respectively.
After acquiring selection 58 (Port Adelaide) in the 2024 Australian Football League National Draft, Collingwood has signed Dan Houston, who was previously playing for Port Adelaide. Joe Richards will leave the Club for Port Adelaide, while John Noble will arrive at the Gold Coast SUNS. This is the transaction that will take place. Port Adelaide will receive the 36th pick in the forthcoming draft from Collingwood, while the Gold Coast SUNS will receive the first round selection that Collingwood will have in the future.
Houston has agreed to terms with the Pies for a period of six years.
During this season, the 27-year-old player was a member of the Power’s leadership team and participated in 168 games across eight different seasons with the program. The defender has been named to the All Australian blazer team on two separate occasions (2023 and 2024), was a member of the 22under22 team in 2019, and has been in the top three of the Power’s Best and Fairest count on three separate occasions (for the years 2019, 2022, and 2023). Having previously played for Oakleigh Chargers alongside Darcy Moore, Jordan De Goey, and Lachie Sullivan, Houston will be moving back to his hometown of Melbourne, where he will be reunited with some characters he is already acquainted with at the Pies.
In accordance with the terms of the agreement, Richards arrives at Port Adelaide. During the 2022 Australian Football League National Draft, the forward was recruited by Collingwood as a mature-age choice from Wangaratta. He has played nine games at the Australian Football League level.
This year, the 24-year-old player made his debut in the Australian Football League (AFL) in Round Nine, which was a loss to the West Coast Eagles by 66 points.
According to Joe Richards:
Because of Collingwood’s willingness to take a risk on me, I was able to realize my dream of playing Australian Football League at the highest level.
I would want to express my gratitude to the guys, the coaches, and the staff for their support they have shown me over the past two years and for welcome me into what is truly an outstanding club.
“I will never forget the time I spent at the Pies,” she said.
In addition, Noble makes his way to the Gold Coast SUNS as a result of the transaction. This past month, Noble shared with the Club his intention to investigate the possibility of a trade in the northern region in order to be closer to his family.
It was through the 2019 Mid-Season Rookie Draft that Noble was selected by Collingwood with the fourteenth overall choice. With the black and white, he participated in 112 games over the course of six seasons.
The 27-year-old player celebrated his 100th career game against the Adelaide Crows in the tenth round of this year’s competition.
His name is John Noble.
“I would want to express my deepest gratitude to the Collingwood Football Club, and in particular to Derek Hine and Ned Guy, for having faith in me as a young man growing up in Adelaide who is 22 years old.
The coaches, high performance staff, medical personnel, and administrative staff who have been a part of my journey at the Club are all people I would like to express my gratitude to.
Collingwood provided me with a chance that I will be grateful for for the rest of my life. As a result of my time spent at the club, I have gained friends that will last a lifetime, and I wish both them and the football club continued success.
The statement was made by Justin Leppitsch, who is the Head of Football Strategy, Innovation, and List Management at Collingwood.
Our hearts are filled with joy at the sight of Dan arriving at Collingwood.
“Although it is obvious that he possesses talent, we are also aware that we are bringing in a fantastic leader and person.
Dan comes in as a ready-made player who has the potential to have an influence on our program. He has eight years of experience playing at the Australian Football League level.
I would like to express my gratitude to John and Joe for the services they have made to our club. As part of this agreement, we will be saying goodbye to two exceptional individuals.
John was selected by our club in the middle of the season, and because to his tenacity and perseverance, he was able to participate in more than one hundred games for our club. John will reside in Collingwood for the rest of his life.
At the period that Joe was a member of our club, we witnessed a significant amount of progress in him, and we are confident that he will continue to develop at the AFL level. His intention to move to Port in search of other opportunities is respected, and we wish him the best of luck.
