To combat the sensation of being “unseen” as she gets older, Jane Seymour is speaking out.

As part of the Speak Up in BE campaign, which is being run by the biopharmaceutical company Insmed, the award-winning actress who plays Dr Quinn in Medicine Woman participated in a panel discussion on Wednesday. The panel was hosted by Queen Sugar’s Tina Lifford. The purpose of the panel was to help raise awareness about ‘unseenism’, which refers to the way in which women are devalued in society as they age. This typically results in doctors dismissing real medical concerns, such as cases of ch”I spoke to a lot of friends of mine, and they said, ‘Yes, I am unseen, and I am unheard,'” Seymour, who is 73 years old, said in an interview with PEOPLE newspaper. In spite of the fact that “I’m on television and people do pay attention to me more than the average person,” Seymour is also of the same opinion concerning this matter. “When something breaks down in my household, I call up and I ask, ‘Can you help me with this?'” I can be reached at this number. When it comes to discussing the matter, the man will actually look over my head and locate the man who is closest to me in the room. As if I were invisible to you.”

Seymour continued by saying, “Okay, excuse me, I am the owner of this house, I am the one who pays for it, and I came to you.” When it comes to this information, I am the one who is paying you. I ask that you show me respect, and then we can have this conversation.

The actress who played Bond wants to do her part to bring attention to the dangers that unseemliness poses to women’s health, particularly when it comes to their interactions with medical professionals. “I get that ‘doctor’s nervous’ thing, even though I’m a doctor’s daughter and I played one on TV,” Seymour explained to reporters. “Because I don’t always take it in at the time that it is told to me, I always have someone else with me to take notes, or I’ve just asked for permission to record it. These are the two options that I always have.” Moreover, I do not want to be told, “Oh, you are completely losing it.” It’s possible that we ought to check you for dementia, or that you’re struggling to pay attention, or that you’re just an elderly woman. That is the way things work out in life.'”

Never in her life does Seymour want anyone to judge her based on her age. She stated, “I am 73 years old, but I do not feel old.” “I am aware that the rest of the world is probably looking at that and thinking, ‘Oh, that’s the old one.’ To put it another way, I want to redefine it. The fact that it is not old is a sign of wisdom on two legs.

The actress continued by saying that she is deeply enamoured with “being a woman,” and she does not wish to give the impression that she is in any way interested in “being a man.” However, all I want is to be respected and to have my voice heard. I believe that as you get older, people tend to look at you with a kind of expression that says, “Oh well, she’s past her prime.” There is no significance in her because she is a little old lady.'”
