Toto Wolff dispels Lewis Hamilton Abu Dhabi ’21 theory in ‘no correlation’ verdict

On the other hand, Toto Wolff is sure that the argument that Lewis Hamilton is “not driving as fast” because of Abu Dhabi 2021 is fundamentally incorrect.

Despite the fact that it was a race that was shrouded in controversy, the 2021 Formula One season will be remembered as an all-time classic. This is because Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen went into the Abu Dhabi title decider level on points. Verstappen emerged victorious, claiming the title of World Champion. However, the race was marred by controversy due to the actions of Michael Masi, who was serving as race director at the time.

And Toto Wolff is adamant that Abu Dhabi 2021 was the most recent season in which Lewis Hamilton has been in title contention, with three additional Mercedes campaigns failing to produce a fresh shot at title number eight. As a result, Hamilton missed out on an eight World Championship, which would have moved him ahead of Michael Schumacher in the all-time F1 title standings. Hamilton also missed out on a chance to win the eighth World Championship.

At the same time that Formula One 2024 featured highs such as returning to winning ways at Silverstone and Spa, it also brought with it painful lows such as Qatar for Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton was able to end what had turned into a painful Mercedes swansong on a high in Abu Dhabi as he recovered to P4, and a new career chapter at Ferrari is on its way beginning with Formula One 2025.

Wolff, on the other hand, is not of the opinion that Hamilton experienced a long-term hangover from the Abu Dhabi 2021 event.

When Wolff was asked about Hamilton’s capacity to recover from that disappointment during the Beyond the Grid podcast, he responded by saying, “The conclusion of 2021 is something that is going to be with us forever when it comes to our professional lives.”

However, I do not believe that the conclusion of the year 21 has any kind of connection to the fact that people are not driving as fast anymore or anything else of the sort.

Quite the contrary, Wolff is of the opinion that Hamilton continued to improve from that moment forth.

According to Wolff, “All things considered, as a human being, as a professional, and outside of the car, he is getting more complete every time.”

At long last, Lewis Hamilton has the opportunity to fully break free from the specters of Abu Dhabi 2021.

Despite having to start last for the sprint owing to a DRS inconformity and being relegated five positions on the Grand Prix grid for taking a new engine, Lewis Hamilton was still able to fight his way through the pack and ultimately pass Max Verstappen to win the race. This was another crucial race in the 2021 championship struggle.
