Since the beginning of the modern period, tennis has produced a wide variety of outstanding players from a wide variety of countries, ranging from established powerhouses to fledgling ones.


This article takes a look at the nine nations that have been successful in producing a singles player who has achieved the position of world No. 1 on both the ATP and WTA Tours.

There are eight women and six men from the United States of America who have climbed to the top spot in the singles rankings, putting them in the lead for both the WTA and ATP world No. 1 rankings.


Since the rankings were originally announced in 1975, Chris Evert has held the position of world No. 1 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). She was quickly followed by players such as Tracy Austin and Martina Navratilova.


A number of tennis players, including Monica Seles, Lindsay Davenport, Jennifer Capriati, and Serena and Venus Williams, have finished in the top spot in recent years.


After Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, and Andy Roddick have all risen to the top of the rankings, Jimmy Connors was the first American man to achieve this feat till now.
