The generous donation was made by Fremantle Captain Alex Pearce during a visit to St. Patrick’s Community Support Centre (St Pat’s) by the player and coaching groups last week. They volunteered their time to hand out refreshments and assist people who were struggling to fight the heat.

Alex stated, “It is always good to have moments like this where we step away from the training track and acknowledge that we do have a larger role in society and within the Freo community.” these is something that is considered to be a positive experience.

Fremantle Players’ Community Charitable Fund was the source of the visit and donation, which was made possible by the Freo Skipper, who was the driving force behind the visit. It was the first player-backed fund formed by a sporting team in Australia, and it was established in 2018 with help from the Fremantle Foundation.

I am extremely proud of what we have been able to do, said the Freo Captain. “This charitable fund was established largely on the back of David Mundy’s support, and to be able to continue that on, help build a legacy, and set an example to allow players to think beyond our four walls – I am really proud of what we have been able to do.”

“It is my hope that this donation is a small step toward achieving a larger goal that St. Pat’s has, and that it will assist in providing expanded services to individuals and (aim) to put an end to homelessness.”

As a result of the support provided by the Western Australian Government, Lotterywest, and other important donors, construction on the new facility for St. Pat’s has already begun. In order to provide the most effective assistance to individuals who are facing homelessness, the charitable organization is currently working to fund $750,000 to assist in the process of fitting out its new home.

The St. Pat’s Engagement Hub is scheduled to open at the end of 2025, and it will offer a secure and friendly environment for people, including families and individuals, to take use of various forms of assistance, including meals, showers, medical and dental care, and more.
