William Saliba’s response proved invaluable as Arsenal concluded their 14-year run without reaching the Champions League quarter-finals. The North London club advanced to the quarterfinals following an exhilarating victory over Porto in a penalty shootout.

Leandro Trossard equalized the game with the sole goal of the encounter during the later part of the first half. Goalkeeper David Raya emerged as the standout performer of the evening, successfully stopping penalties from Wendell and Galeno, ultimately ensuring a 4-2 triumph for the Gunners.

The team’s most recent appearance in the quarter-finals occurred in the 2009/10 season, although they were subsequently eliminated by Barcelona. Subsequently, Arsenal has had seven eliminations during the round of 16 phase, and this season marks their return to the competition after a hiatus since 2017.

After the contest, Saliba was unable to conceal his enthusiasm over the outcome. According to the Mirror, when the majority of his teammates were celebrating with Raya, he separated himself from the group.

The French player energetically signaled towards the spectators, indicating the Arsenal badge and raised his arms to inspire additional applause. Subsequently, he reunited with his fellow colleagues to resume the festivities.

Saliba and the rest of the Arsenal team will be anxiously anticipating Friday’s draw for the quarter-finals. Prominent clubs such as Bayern Munich, PSG, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Barcelona have also advanced to the next stage and are potential opponents for the Gunners.
