Texas A&M’s Mike Elko Had Comical Slip-Up While Trying to Not Talk About Texas

Mike Elko isn’t doing anything to address concerns about his team’s priorities.

As the Aggies get ready for their matchup with Auburn this weekend, the head coach of Texas A&M was asked on Tuesday if the excitement surrounding his team’s November 30 matchup with Texas was a worry. His response was instructive.

“I don’t think it’s a problem,” Elko stated. I believe it’s simple to concentrate on the task at hand when you’re in the circumstances we’re in. Perhaps you look ahead to those important games earlier in the year. You may worry about it if we didn’t have anything at risk. I believe that right now, we are solely focused on Texas—er, Auburn—and locked into the tasks at hand.”

That was quite a trek, to be sure. Elko made the mistake of claiming that his squad was more focused on Texas than the game this weekend, despite his best efforts to reassure everyone that they were. Whoops.

On Saturday, the Aggies, who are 8-2 so far this season, will travel to play Auburn, who are 4-6. With a 5-1 conference record, Texas A&M and Texas are now tied for first place in the SEC. If both teams win this weekend, we might be in for a huge matchup in two weeks.More College Football News: • SEC Commissioner Attacks Other Conferences for Schedule Power • Shedeur Sanders’ One-Word Message to Top QB Prospect Following Colorado Commitment

Elko, who went 16-9 in his two seasons at Duke, is currently in his first season as head coach of Texas A&M. In his first season as head coach, he has the Aggies in a strong position.
