Steve Bruce Returns to the Dugout: A Look at His New Role as League One Manager

After nearly two years without a club, Steve Bruce has returned to football with the appointment of manager of Blackpool.

The former manager of Wigan, Sunderland, and Newcastle has agreed to a two-year contract with the Seasiders. While Richard Keogh and Stephen Dobbie will continue to lead the team as first team coaches, Bruce has Steve Agnew as his assistant head coach.


Blackpool fired former Liverpool manager Neil Critchley following the team’s opening two League One losses of the season. Keogh had assumed temporary leadership of the side before to Bruce’s appointment.

The 63-year-old, who most recently took over as West Bromwich Albion’s manager, returns to football. After barely eight months, Bruce was let go by the Midlands club after the Baggies began the Championship season with just one victory in 13 games.
