An earlier report indicates that Parfitt, whose career spanned fifty years and included opening the show at Live Aid, passed away in a hospital in Spain earlier today.

Immediately after the news broke, author Ian Rankin took to Twitter to express his sorrow and share a few memories of the 68-year-old victim.

He said, “Recalling the time when I was in my early teens and purchasing a denim waistcoat.” The reason for this is the Quo. Rest in peace, Rick Parfitt:

Additionally, Midge Ure, the frontman for Ultravox, who also performed at Live Aid, paid tribute to the event.

Rick Parfitt, a member of Status Quo, passed away, he tweeted. Totally and utterly depressing. What a charming individual. Our prayers are with his loved ones and friends at this time. The news affected fans in Scotland as well, and they expressed their sadness by sharing their fondest memories of Status Quo.An earlier statement made by the band’s manager, Simon Porter, confirmed the news.

The following is an excerpt from a statement that was released: “We are truly devastated to have to announce that Rick Parfitt, the guitarist for Status Quo, passed away today at lunchtime.”

After being admitted to the hospital on Thursday evening due to complications stemming from a shoulder injury sustained in a previous fall, he passed away in a hospital in Marbella, Spain, as a result of a severe infection.

“This tragic news comes at a time when Rick was enormously looking forward to launching a solo career with an album and autobiography planned for 2017. This was in response to his departure from the touring activities of Status Quo on the advice of his physician.

The very first band that I ever saw perform live was Status Quo, and they were Rick Parfitt. Rest in peace, said one person. Irrefutable legends.”
