Rasmus Hojlund has provided a response to allegations that he made fun of Cristiano Ronaldo after scoring the game-winning goal for Denmark against Portugal on Thursday. In front of Ronaldo, who has won the Ballon d’Or five times, the Manchester United striker scored the game-winning goal in the 78th minute and then did Ronaldo’s signature “Siu” celebration.

There have been several players at various levels who have imitated Ronaldo’s “Siu” in recent years. This is typically done out of reverence for the iconic Portuguese forward, Ronaldo, who is considered to be the most famous celebration in the world of football. Nevertheless, there has been a backlash against Hojlund on social media as the 22-year-old celebrated while Ronaldo, who did not have the best night, watched on. Ronaldo was there to witness the celebration.

Copenhagen served as the location for the opening leg of the quarterfinals of the UEFA Nations League, which featured a matchup between Denmark and Portugal. Denmark was able to earn a hard-fought victory by a score of 1-0 courtesy to Hojlund, who just ended a goal drought consisting of 21 games with Manchester United. Although Portugal had the stronger team on paper, Denmark was able to secure the victory. When Hojlund was asked about his decision to perform the “Siu” in front of Ronaldo, he justified his decision to the reporters after the match and insisted that it was done out of respect for his “idol.” According to ESPN, he stated to the Danish network TV2 that “It’s for my idol.” I wasn’t making fun of him or anything like that.

In terms of my football career, he has been such a significant influence on me. It’s possible that it’s a little bit ambivalent, but scoring against him and Portugal is a great accomplishment.

As an additional point of interest, he stated, “I remember him scoring from a free-kick in 2011 when I went to watch the match, and ever since then, I’ve been a huge fan of Cristiano.”

It is not certain whether Cristiano enjoyed Hojlund’s imitation of his celebration at that precise moment; nonetheless, it is evident that the Denmark international did not aim to cause any harm. It is astonishing that Ronaldo played the full 90 minutes, considering that he only had 30 touches and two shots on goal during the match.

When reporters asked Portugal manager Roberto Martinez why Ronaldo wasn’t substituted out for Paris Saint-Germain attacker Goncalo Ramos, Martinez responded, “I believe in everyone.” Sportskeeda reported that Martinez made this statement. It is the first time that Goncalo Ramos has joined our team in the League of Nations. He has never been here before. We place a great deal of importance on Goncalo as a player. The question of who is left out and who is included is not relevant here.

“The stop from November to March, there are times when the intensity, pace, and synchronisation is not there, and it was not Cristiano as the spearhead. It was in the areas that we expected, and it was not the problem of the spearhead,” the coach said.

After being picked out by Andreas Skov Olsen, Hojlund capped off a nice team move by tapping the ball calmly into the bottom corner of Diogo Costa’s goal.step in the team’s progression. The number nine jersey of Manchester United was then rolled away in jubilation. This was the final
