Opening Round: Fremantle Dockers coach Justin Longmuir calls for end of controversial concept

As of right now, it seems that the competition is going to continue with the plan of beginning the season outside of its core regions. In response to the severe criticism that was directed towards the contentious proposal, Chief Executive Officer Andrew Dillon reiterated his position on Wednesday.

During the second edition of this year’s competition, two games were cancelled due to the possibility of Cyclone Alfred in Queensland. Both the match between Brisbane and Geelong, which was scheduled to take place on Thursday night, and the match between Gold Coast and Essendon, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, respectively, have been postponed until later in the season.

Longmuir stated, “It is what it is, an unfortunate circumstance up in Brisbane,” and he was right.

From my perspective, I would probably prefer to begin with a level playing field, in which everyone begins in the same round. It’s possible that the advantages we gain from it don’t exceed the disadvantages. Dillon expressed his desire to continue opening the season up launch, but he acknowledged that it might be time for some adjustments to be made. There has been an increase in the number of requests for games to be played around the nation, particularly in light of the fact that Victoria and South Australia are enjoying a national holiday, which would make it possible to play marquee matchups on Sunday nights.

During the SportNXT conference that took place in Melbourne, Dillon stated that the opening round was all about shedding light on New South Wales and Queensland, and that it was successful in doing so the previous year.

“Bringing the conversation about football early in New South Wales and Queensland was the primary reason, and that reason is still here today.

Now, this does not necessarily indicate that the opening round will look exactly the same the following year; I am not sure.

We have the impression that we are only scraping the surface of the options that are available to us, yet there are more opportunities available.
