For the Cotton Bowl, which will take place this evening, all eyes will be on Arlington, Texas. The second semifinal of the College Football Playoff (CFP) features a matchup between Ohio State and Texas. The victor of this matchup will face Notre Dame in the championship game, which will take place on Monday in Atlanta.

As a result of their victory over Oregon, one of the top seeds and one of the biggest favourites, in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day, the Ohio State Buckeyes (12-2) are on a scoring streak.

In the meantime, Texas defeated Arizona State, the No. 12 seed, in the Peach Bowl by a score of 39-31 after the game went into double overtime. With a record of 11-2, head coach Steve Sarkisian has guided his team to a good season. As the No. 2 seeds, they will be a difficult adversary for Ohio State thanks to their strong performance.

The two programs are going to get together for the fourth time this time around. Two of the three prior matches were decided by a single point: Texas won the game at Ohio Stadium in 2005 by a score of 25-22; Ohio State won the game in Austin in 2006 by a score of 24-7; and Texas won the Fiesta Bowl in 2009 by a score of 24-21.Are there any bowl games that Ohio State has participated in?
This will be the 58th bowl game that Ohio State has participated in, and it will be their fourth time playing in the Cotton Bowl. In the bowl game that took place in Arlington the previous year, the Buckeyes were defeated by Arlington by a score of 14-3, and they will be eager to make amends for that loss. The result brings their record in the Cotton Bowl to 2-1, with victories coming in 1987 and 2017 respectively. There have been 34 appearances in the “big four” bowl games, and the overall record for the program in bowl games is 28-29.

Ohio State has won the College Football National Championship a total of eight times, with four of those victories being shared with other programs (1954, 1957, 1961, and 1970). This brings the overall number of national titles won by Ohio State to eight.

The first national championship for Ohio State was won in the year 1942. Following the conclusion of the season with a record of 9-1, the squad was awarded the Associated Press Trophy.

The Ohio State Buckeyes would go on to win five national championships under the direction of coach Woody Hayes between the years 1954 and 1970.

When the Bowl Championship Series was played according to its old format, Ohio State was eliminated from the National Championship Game in both 2007 and 2008. The most recent national championship for the program was won in 2014, when Urban Meyer’s squad defeated the Oregon Ducks by a score of 42-20 in the final of the College Football Playoff National Championship Championship.
