Nominees for the Songwriters Hall of Fame include artists such as Boy George, Janet Jackson, and Eminem.

Eminem, Boy George, George Clinton, Sheryl Crow, Janet Jackson, the Doobie Brothers, NWA, and Alanis Morissette are among of the artists that have been nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame class of 2025.

Adding to their varied list are the Canadian musician Bryan Adams and Mike Love of the Beach Boys, who will be aiming to get in 25 years after the band’s founder, Brian Wilson. Both of these individuals are members of the Beach Boys.


Not only that, but David Gates, who is also a co-lead singer for the band Bread, is looking for entrance.

The Hall of Fame inducts both performers and non-performers on an annual basis. This year, the non-performers category includes Walter Afanasieff, who assisted Mariah Carey with her hit song “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” as well as Mike Chapman, who was a member of the jazz ensemble.Members who are eligible to vote have until the 22nd of December to submit their ballots, which should include their selections of three nominees from the category of songwriters and three nominations from the category of performing-songwriters.


Several artists, including Clinton, whose Parliament-Funkadelic collective was enormously influential with hits such as Atomic Dog and Give Up the Funk, and The Doobie Brothers, which consisted of Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, and Michael McDonald, who released classics such as Listen to the Music and Long Train Runnin, are getting another opportunity to enter the competition.


Additionally, Steve Winwood, whose successes include “Higher Love” and “Roll With It,” has been on the ballot in several previous elections.

Eminem, whose songs include “Lose Yourself” and “Stan,” as well as members of the NWA, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, Ice Cube, MC Ren, and DJ Yella, are the artists who are representing hip-hop in this time period.

There are already hip-hop stars like Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, and Missy Elliot that are inducted into the Hall of Fame. and Narada Michael Walden, the architect of Whitney Houston’s How Will I Know and Aretha Franklin’s Freeway of Love Tommy James, with singles including Mony Mony, Crimson and Clover, and I Think We’re Alone Now, has also earned a nod. Love Is a Battlefield was co-written by Pat Benatar, and he has also been nominated for an award.

In the event that Jackson, whose album Rhythm Nation was a landmark in 1989, is inducted into the Hall of Fame, it will be more than twenty years after her brother Michael, who passed away.

Morissette, a Canadian songwriter, has previously been honored with Grammys, Tonys, Junos, and MTV awards. She is the reason for the phenomenal success of the song “Jagged Little Pill.”

After being elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023, Crow is experiencing a critical renaissance on account of the fact that he was responsible for writing and performing classics such as “Everyday Is a Winding Road” and “All I Wanna Do.”

Through his singles with Culture Club, such as “Karma Chameleon” and “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me,” Boy George is the personification of the New Wave movement of the 1980s.

Franne Golde, who collaborated with Selena on the song “Dreaming of You,” Tom Douglas, who has written country hits for Tim McGraw, Lady Antebellum, and Miranda Lambert, Ashley Gorley, who is fresh off his collaboration on the smash hit “I Had Some Help” by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen, and Roger Nichols, who collaborated with The Carpenters on the song “We’ve Only Just Begun” are some of the other nominees for the non-performing category.They are joined by Rodney Darkchild Jerkins, who was a contributor to the hit song “The Boy Is Mine” by Brandy and Monica; Sonny Curtis, a former member of the Crickets who wrote and performed the theme song for “Love is All Around” on The Mary Tyler Moore Show; and Tony Macaulay, a British composer who was responsible for writing “Build Me Up Buttercup.”

Additionally, the Hall of Fame presented three songwriting teams: Steve Barri and P.F. Sloan, who were responsible for the composition of “Secret Agent Man;” Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter, who were responsible for the composition of the hit song “Ain’t No Woman (Like the One I’ve Got)” by the Four Tops; and Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham, who were responsible for the composition of the song “Out of Left Field” by Percy Sledge.

In 1969, the Songwriters Hall of Fame was formed with the purpose of paying tribute to the individuals who came up with popular songs. Twenty years after the initial commercial release of a song, a songwriter who has a significant catalog of songs is eligible for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Carole King, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Brian Wilson, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Lionel Richie, Bill Withers, Neil Diamond, and Phil Collins are some of the artists who have participated in the competition in the past.

R.E.M., Steely Dan, Dean Pitchford, Hillary Lindsey, and Timbaland were all inducted into the Hall of Fame in the previous year.
