Nate Burleson can’t wait to party in Detroit with CBS ‘NFL Today’ in town for Lions-Bills

When CBS’s pregame NFL show, “NFL Today,” broadcasts live from downtown Detroit prior to the Detroit Lions’ game against the Buffalo Bills, Nate Burleson has a new tradition in mind.

On Sunday, from noon to 1 p.m., CBS, the network that broadcasts the Lions vs. Bills game at 4:25 p.m., will stream “NFL Today” live from Detroit. After its first broadcast from Buffalo for the Bills-Chiefs game in Week 11, this will be the second time this season that CBS has done a live pregame program prior to a major game.

CBS had never broadcast the studio show live from a regular season game until this year.

During the first live broadcast, Burleson, a former Lions receiver turned show analyst, placed a wager with a Bills fan. Burleson made the decision to make a friendly wager, promising to give the fan his red-and-black jacket if the Bills won, after he heard a fan plead for it for the most of the performance. He then shared the jacket on social media.

In order to establish a cordial custom with local supporters whenever “NFL Today” travels, Burleson told the Free Press this week that he hopes to strike a similar arrangement with a Lions supporter on the broadcast on Sunday. The popularity of the live broadcast in Buffalo gave rise to the notion of performing in Detroit. Four weeks later, two of the NFL’s top contenders in the NFC and AFC square off in the next major showdown.

“Somebody whispered, well logistically it can’t be next week (after the Bills-Chiefs game),” recalled Burleson. We’re searching for a big game because we simply can’t pull it off. “I said ‘DE-TROIT’ right away because I knew it was real, and there’s a Bills-Lions game coming up.”With former MVP quarterback Matt Ryan, Super Bowl-winning coach Bill Cowher, Burleson, host James Brown, former defensive player of the year J.J. Watt, and reporter Jonathan Jones, the cast of “NFL Today” will be doing the CBS pregame show live on the corner of Brush Street and Adams Street between the Comerica Park entrance and Gate A at Ford Field from noon to 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Burleson laughed and remarked, “I might as well establish a tradition of betting a fly garment with a fervent fan.”
