Manchester United has finally agree to sale the first-team defender to Championship club

Will Fish, a defender for Manchester United, is moving permanently to Cardiff City.

Fish is expected to finalise a permanent move to Cardiff this week, as reported by The Manchester Evening News last month. Fish was reportedly drawing interest from Championship clubs.

Several second-tier teams expressed interest in signing Fish on loan or permanently, but Cardiff has long loved the player and has reached an agreement with United.

It’s believed that Fish, who made 45 appearances during his productive loan stint with Hibernian last season, was itching to play competitive first-team football.

Fish, 21, is leaving his boyhood club, although it’s a bittersweet move for him as he wants a prominent team role at this point in his career. Fish was a regular starter in Scotland.

Fish is leaving with the best wishes of the staff, and United insiders regarded his brief stint with Hibernian as one of their most successful loans.

The young player had always hoped to leave United permanently this summer, but he got injured against Liverpool while on the preseason tour of the United States.

Despite being carted off the pitch during the South Carolina loss to Liverpool, Fish’s injury was not as serious as first thought, allowing him to heal and agree to a move to Cardiff.

Happy to sell Fish on a permanent transfer, United has acquired Matthijs de Ligt for €45 million with a possible further €5 million this summer, and signed Leny Yoro for €62 million plus €8 million in add-ons.

On the last day of the 2020–21 Premier League season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave Fish his United senior debut against Wolves at Molineux Stadium when he was just 17 years old.

Born in Denton, Fish is a local boy who has been on United’s roster since he enrolled in the academy at the age of seven. His United contract terminated in 2025, and the team was eligible for one additional year.
