Considering that Manchester United was rumoured to be operating on a tight budget, the Red Devils’ four major acquisitions may come as a surprise.

As Erik ten Hag continues to shape this team to better suit his image and playing style, you would think that any more additions would be entirely dependent on player sales first.

Scott McTominay is one individual whose future is still uncertain. The 20-time Premier League champions saw the Scotland international score 10 goals in his debut season, but he is still a reserve player.

A fascinating update on McTominay’s future has been given by ESPN, as the Reds have been contacted by Napoli over the midfielder’s possible signing.

According to reports, this summer, United will now “consider” bids for the dependable first-team player. But, during the current transfer window, the Old Trafford team is not aggressively seeking to let go of McTominay.

Should McTominay decide to go on, United would prefer a long-term agreement over a loan, at a cost of approximately £25–30 million.

According to reports, McTominay is “well aware” of Napoli’s interest in him, while Fulham and Galatasaray are also reportedly keen on signing him. If the midfield player decides to leave Salford Quays, he will undoubtedly have a lot of options.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, has openly expressed his desire for McTominay to stay, but he also said that a “realistic offer” would be given “serious consideration” due to the club’s financial situation.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind the result. McTominay can be a dependable team member, but I don’t think he can win league titles as a key contributor.
