Lewis Hamilton to be overthrown by Max Verstappen in Michael Schumacher’s pursuit?
With seven race wins and a pole position in 2020, Hamilton tied Schumacher for the most titles won by a driver in Formula One history, making him the most statistically successful driver in the sport’s history.

But since the end of the contentious 2021 season, Verstappen has easily won three straight World Championships, leaving the British star with just two wins.

With six races left in the F1 2024 season, Verstappen leads the Drivers’ standings by 52 points, despite not winning a race since the Spanish Grand Prix on June 23.

If Verstappen, 27, wins four titles in a row, he will becomeDue to their recent successes, Verstappen and Hamilton are now considered among the finest drivers in Formula One history, ranking alongside Ayrton Senna and Schumacher.

Ralf Schumacher, speaking on the Formula1.de YouTube channel, was adamant that his brother’s place in Formula One history would not be affected, claiming that Hamilton’s recent troubles with Mercedes have demonstrated his inability to “walk on water.”

And he believes Verstappen has a better chance than Hamilton of undermining the reputation of the legendary Ferrari driver.

“Not even Lewis Hamilton will ever come close to Michael,” stated Schumacher. Not in light years, as far as I can tell.

“Yes, Lewis Hamilton did not walk on water as we had assumed.

Although, in my opinion, Max Verstappen has more talent than Lewis, we still believed he could walk on water.

“That is the nature of things.”

Schumacher continued by acknowledging that a driver’s success often depends on being “in the right place at the right time,” noting that his brother’s five consecutive titles with Ferrari from 2000 to 2004 was the most crushing period of domination F1 has ever seen.

“Michael was one of the drivers who made the difference,” he continued. Also, he was extremely fortunate to be at the right location at the right moment.

Verstappen’s accomplishments seemed to be called into doubt by Hamilton last year, who asserted that Verstappen’s F1 career has been hampered by inferior teammates.

Since making his McLaren debut in 2007, Hamilton has battled World Champions Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button, and Nico Rosberg, as well as multiple race winners Valtteri Bottas and George Russell.

In contrast, Verstappen has been teamed with drivers with a combined record of 12 race wins, including Carlos Sainz, Daniel Ricciardo, Pierre Gasly, and Alex Albon.

Before this weekend’s United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of The Americas, Verstappen is presently 187 points ahead of his current teammate, six-time race winner Sergio Perez.

“The media didn’t say the same thing when I qualified half a second, six tenths ahead of Valtteri as they say today when Max qualifies six tenths ahead of Perez,” Hamilton said to Sky Italy. It has expanded far more.

“In my perspective, Max’s teammates have not been as powerful as Valtteri and any of my teammates.

“Jenson, George, Fernando, Valtteri, and Nico – I’ve experienced a lot.

“Max hasn’t competed against anyone like that; these guys have all been incredibly strong and consistent.”
