Kylian Mbappe Was First to Call Out Julian Alvarez’s Penalty in Champions League Round of 16
In Real Madrid’s Champions League matchup with Atletico Madrid, Kylian Mbappé had a key role in the decision to deny Julián Alvarez’s penalty.
After extra time, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid were tied 2–2 on aggregate, forcing a penalty shootout to decide which team would advance to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Even though Real Madrid defeated Diego Simeone’s team 4–2 on penalties, there was one contentious moment that stole the show.
VAR eventually ruled that the Argentine touched the ball with two feet, negating Alvarez’s successful penalty. Following the game, video surfaced showing Kylian Mbappé being the first player on the field to spot Julián Alvarez’s penalty kick in Real Madrid’s Champions League matchup against Atletico Madrid.
