Julien Alfred shares how she triumphed over Sha’Carri Richardson & why she lost 200m Olympics gold
Julien Alfred has disclosed the factors that lead to her victory over Sha’Carri Richardson, the reigning world champion in the 100-meter dash, as well as the factors that contributed to her defeat to Gabby Thomas in the 200-meter dash at the Paris Olympics.
Julia Alfred, the reigning Olympic champion in the 100-meter dash, has provided an explanation as to why she was defeated by Gabby Thomas in the 200-meter dash and how her semifinal victory over Sha’Carri Richardson bolstered her confidence going into the final of the women’s 100-meter dash.
Julien Alfred revealed that she went into a state of fear when she saw the semifinal lineup, which included Sha’Carri Richardson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. At one point, she believed that she would not be able to make it to the final. The announcement that Fraser-Pryce would not be participating in the race was made in the call room; nevertheless, this did not alleviate the strain that was being exerted on the team because the defending world champion was still in the running.
However, the fact that she slowed down with approximately 5 meters to go and still managed to defeat Sha’Carri Richardson was a morale booster heading into the final, which she strongly impressed. The global indoor champion explained that she was unable to adjust her plan since she wanted to go all the way to the finish line.

The American sprint queen was forced to settle for the silver medal after the St. Lucien sprint sensation crossed the finish line first. The American sprint queen was the winner of the race. In a race that was extremely close, Melissa Jefferson finished on the podium.
When I saw the lineup, I thought to myself, “Man, I have to run tomorrow because I was thinking about how I would execute,” and I continued to think about it. Before the Olympics, my coach Flo and I worked on visualizing my races, but the Olympic final was the one that we focused on the most. It didn’t matter who was standing there. “The race came to me so early, and I had to mentally prepare myself for the semifinal, which was crazy,” Julien Alfred said in an interview with Sports Max TV. “I had to psych myself up.”
The fact that I had to stay awake for the semifinals meant that I was unable to make any significant adjustments to my game strategy. I had to compete against the world champion. I had a lot of confidence after the semifinal, and as I crossed the finish line, I knew I had won. I had a good race in the semifinal, and I even slowed down in the final five meters of the race. I knew I had the victory. She went on to say, “I was as relaxed as I could possibly be, and I believe that the way the semifinal turned out was the best thing that could have happened to me and helped me gain confidence.”Julien Alfred admitted that her negative attitude was a contributing factor in her loss before she competed in the 200-meter dash. On the other hand, she confessed that the stress of running the numerous rounds of the 100-meter dash and then moving on to the 200-meter dash could have been detrimental.
“I believe weariness was a factor, and I was also doing a lot of overthinking…Coming into the final, not to mention the fact that it was the final race, I just wanted to get it over with. Even though I had just finished the 100-meter dash, I went to bed quite late, slept for two hours, and drank some coffee. This caused me to be really exhausted. I had just begun to warm up and had completed some accelerations when my coach told me, “Let’s just go out there for the next round,” Alfred explained.
