John McGinn uses brilliant Tottenham example to Aston Villa and Champions League claim

After edging Tottenham Hotspur for fourth place in the previous campaign, Aston Villa will now take on the best teams in Europe.

Considering that he took over a shambles, Unai Emery has led Aston Villa to the Champions League.

Last season, Tottenham gave Villa a lot of scares, but you could argue that the team’s first-half performances were what made the difference and got them over the finish line.

While Aston Villa’s victory over Arsenal at the Emirates was undoubtedly exciting for Spurs supporters, the team’s play in the second part of the season was erratic at best.

Tottenham advanced to the 2019 Champions League final a few years ago, but Liverpool defeated them 2-0. For the London club, it seems like a lifetime ago.

Although their record was inconsistent, particularly during that year, they managed to finish fourth that season, surpassing then-Emery’s Arsenal, and John McGinn believes Villa may learn from it.

Many will now question Emery’s team’s capacity to contend for the top spot in the Premier League standings and to compete in the Champions League.

However, McGinn told talkSPORT that he had cleverly used Tottenham as proof that it is possible, even though the team must continue to be “realistic.”
