Jamie Carragher fires brutal message to Liverpool substitute amid Ian Wright Man United comment

Jamie Carragher has reacted to Cody Gakpo’s performance for Liverpool against Man United on Sunday

Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher have weighed in on Cody Gakpo’s performance against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Dutchman entered the game as a substitute in Sunday’s 4-3 FA Cup quarterfinal loss at Old Trafford, ending Liverpool’s hopes of winning four titles. Gakpo, who joined Jurgen Klopp’s team at Anfield in January after leaving PSV Eindhoven, played 43 minutes against United but had minimal effect.

Additionally, during the Reds’ cup exit, the 24-year-old was criticized by former Liverpool center-back Carragher. Speaking on X, the former Twitter platform, he said, “Gakpo plays like the game is in slow motion.”

The Dutchman’s cameo did not impress Wright either. On ITV, he stated: “They will undoubtedly be disappointed because, as Klopp stated, there were opportunities for Liverpool to seal the deal.

“The finishing and last ball weren’t very good. Although I don’t think Cody Gakpo contributed much when he first appeared, you have to move past this.

“They are aware of how things operate this time of year and what they need to attempt to accomplish. They remain in the Europa League and are attempting to win the league. All they can do is try to concentrate on the fact that this is over and done. Although regrettable, this is the way things work out.”

After the international break on Sunday, March 31, Liverpool will host Brighton in an attempt to recover from their disappointing loss on Sunday. In the last season under the legendary manager, Klopp’s team still has the opportunity to add the Premier League title and the Europa League trophy to their Carabao Cup victory in February.

The Reds, who are tied for first place in the top flight with Arsenal, will take on Atalanta of Italy in their Europa League quarterfinal match.
