Ineos’ intentions have been hindered since the possibility of a £17m transfer to Manchester United for their target has been rejected.

Manchester United’s summer preparations have suffered an initial setback as Mathys Tel, a forward valued at £17 million, appears to have eliminated the possibility of joining the Premier League by committing to a new contract with Bayern Munich.

Manchester United, who had previously expressed interest in Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting, reportedly shifted their attention to another Bayern attacker after the January transfer market closed.

If we consider 34-year-old Choupo-Moting as a representative example of the temporary solutions employed during the Glazer period at Manchester United, then 18-year-old Mathys Tel can be seen as a suitable symbol of the new administration led by Ineos.

Manchester United, currently under the leadership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team, are redirecting the club’s attention away from high-profile individuals and their reputations, and towards the potential and promise of emerging talent. Florian Plettenberg from Sky Deutschland has stated that United have been closely observing Tel recently and have even reached out to his representatives to inquire about a possible transfer in the summer.

However, now that a new contract has been signed, potentially extending Tel’s stay in Bavaria until 2029, it seems that all the time spent scouting the former Rennes wonderkid has been wasted.
