In the realm of college football, it is time for the world to take notice of Indiana because they are the genuine deal.
“Big Noon Kickoff” is one of the most prestigious sporting events in college football, and Indiana took advantage of the opportunity to play Nebraska, one of the most prestigious brand-named teams in the sport, in order to make its announcement. Not in the form of a Cinderella tale. The glass slippers should be abandoned in the closet. I would not recommend it as a feel-good tonic in a sport that is constantly changing. Take some of your “Chicken Soup for the Soul” and prepare it for someone who is in need of it, such as Nebraska.
The state of Indiana is willing to make its name known around the nation as one of the top 12 teams in the country. And after the Hoosiers, led by Curt Cignetti, defeated Nebraska by a score of 56-7 on Saturday afternoon in Bloomington, Indiana, it is time for the rest of the country to start taking this Indiana team seriously. In the same manner that a field full of corn grown in Nebraska is being sliced away, the excuses that we would use to keep a team like Indiana out of the conversation about the playoffs are being sliced away.
Why hadn’t Indiana been able to defeat a team that had a winning record? Toasted.
Through the first half of the season, Nebraska has not allowed a single touchdown to be scored by the running opponent. It’s gone. In just the first half of the game, the Hoosiers were able to score two touchdowns through the ground.
Once they arrived at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Nebraska, they were ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation in terms of scoring defence, allowing only 11 points per game. And then, just like that, Indiana scored 56 total points (yes, 56!) in one of the most overpowering offensive performances we’ve seen in Big Ten play this season. They scored 28 points in the first half, 21 of which came in the second quarter alone, and a total of 56 points in the second half.
In addition, now that we have demonstrated that the Hoosiers are a genuine contender for both the College Football Playoff and the Big Ten championship, it is imperative that we recognise the exceptional performance of both Kurtis Rourke and Elijah Sarratt on an individual level. We need to talk about Rourke in the same manner that we talk about Dillon Gabriel, who played for Oregon. The Hoosiers’ senior signal-caller, who had spent the previous five years at Ohio University, has been nothing short of amazing throughout the month of October. He arrived in Bloomington during the offseason after having spent the previous five years at Ohio University. In order to pinpoint the flaw in any coverage that he observes after a snap, Rourke is superior to everyone else in the sport in terms of his ability to use token motion and true RPO. At the beginning of the game on Saturday, he completed eight of eight passes through the air. By the end of the day, he had completed seventeen of twenty-one passes for 189 yards, including a touchdown and an interception that occurred on a Hail Mary to end the first half.
Due to what appeared to be a hand injury, Rourke did not participate in the second half of the game with the team. Tayven Jackson, a sophomore in redshift, took his position as the replacement. Once upon a time, Jimmy Johnson made the statement that backups also want to score. This is exactly what Jackson performed. In the final moments of the third quarter, he completed seven of eight passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He also tossed a dime to Sarrett, which increased the score to 42-7 from the previous score.
throughout the victory, Sarratt, who had a total of 1,191 receiving yards throughout his time at James Madison the previous year, caught three passes for a total of 65 yards and scored a touchdown. An 88-yard drive that was completed in six plays was led by Sarratt and Omar Cooper during the first half of the game, demonstrating the explosive potential of this offence.
