As a guest, Botev (Plovdiv) was defeated by CSKA by a score of 3:0. This was the best match that CSKA has played since the beginning of the season. Vion, Marcelino, and Lindset were the players who scored the goals for the red fiesta that was held by the “Hristo Botev” club. Our team could have easily congratulated itself with a more substantial success would they have given themselves.

Stanislav Shopov started in the middle of the pitch instead of Jonathan Lindset, which was the only change that Aleksandar Tomas made to the starting lineup in comparison to the previous championship match against Arda, which was finished with a score of 2-0. Ivan Dyulgerov once again took the position of goalkeeper, and the four players in front of him in the defensive formation were Mika Pinto, Adrian Lapeña, Lumbard Delova, and Thibaut Vion, who served as the captain. Shopov’s colleagues were Marcelino Careasso and James Eto’o, who played in the middle of the pitch. Jason Lokillo and Ullaus Skarshem were responsible for the flanks, and Ioannis Pitas was assigned to the top of the red assault.

The red players of CSKA began the match with a sense of self-assurance and gained dominance over the ball. They attempted to find openings in the opponent’s defence by executing lengthy plays that covered the whole width of the field. However, our team scored a goal from a stationary position in the eighth minute. Shopov crossed the ball from a corner kick, and Vion scored a goal from close range with a header, leaving Bernat, the custodian, with no chance to stop it. The score was 0:1.

As soon as the goal was scored, CSKA continued to be the team that drove the pace of the game, while the hosts waited for advantageous circumstances to launch a counterattack. Within the 23rd minute, James Eto’o engaged in a fierce competition for possession of the ball in the middle of the pitch. He then produced a fantastic pass to Marcelino Careasso, whose shot was sadly blocked by Bernat. Almost immediately after that, Vion made one of his characteristic breakthroughs by dispatching numerous Botev players. He then handed the ball to Pitas, who, unfortunately, shot out of the game.

Pitas had another opportunity to score five minutes before the half was up, but this time his shot went dangerously beyond the bar. Pitas’s chances of scoring were limited. The army squad pulled out of the game with only a one-goal lead at the halftime break, despite the fact that they had the potential to score at least one more goal.

Ilian Iliev came on as a substitute for Jason Lokillo during the halfway break according to Aleksandar Tomas, who made one such substitution.

Skarshem surged through on the left flank, beat off two defenders, and passed the ball to Marcelino, who then checked Bernat with a brilliant shot into the near corner. This allowed CSKA to score their second goal in their first assault after the game was restarted.

In spite of the fact that they were in a comfortable lead, the army team did not back down and instead proceeded to search for new objectives. The attempt that Shopov took on a free kick in the 52nd minute came dangerously close to hitting the crossbar. A little later, CSKA made the result classic after another strong attack, in which Marcelino excellently feinted a Botev defender and shot from a small angle, and the custodian initially blocked his shot; however, the ball fell back to the army midfielder, who found Pittas, whose shot was also parried, before Lindseth, who had come on as a substitute seconds earlier, found the net – 0:3.

As a result, CSKA was able to virtually determine the fate of the match; yet, the red cannonade that was directed towards Botev’s goal persisted. In the 72nd minute, Ilian Iliev was on the edge of scoring a fourth goal when Skarshem made a great pass, but the ball hit the side post instead. Aaron Iseka, who came on as a replacement, had a chance to score in the 85th minute, but Bernat was able to stop his attempt.

In light of this, CSKA completely and utterly deserved to celebrate themselves on the three points, which were topped off with an outstanding performance.

The next encounter for CSKA is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 26, against Arda in the quarterfinals of the Bulgarian Cup. The match will take place at the Vasil Levski National Stadium and will take place at 18:00.
