In recognition of her accomplishments in the sport of tennis, Gabriela Sabatini, a former champion of the United States Open and the third-ranked player in the world, was presented with a statue in Buenos Aires. Sabatini was one of the most glamorous and well-known players on the Women’s Tennis Association Tour during the 1920s and early 1990s.

Sabatini and Mauricio Macri, who had previously served as the president of Boca Juniors and earlier served as the head of the government of Buenos Aires, were both present at the occasion. Other Argentine athletic stars, including as Guillermo Vilas and Emanuel Ginobili, are already represented by sculptures on the Paseo de la Gloria, which is where the statue can be found.

In the coming months, a number of other players, such as Luciana Aymar, Lionel Messi, Pascual Perez, Hugo Porta, Diego Maradona, and Juan Manuel Fangio, will be introduced to the public. During her career, Sabatini won 27 titles, including the only Grand Slam she ever won, which was at the 1990 US Open. She also made it all the way to the finals at Wimbledon in 1991.

It’s Open for Gabriela Sabatini.”
