The manager of Manchester United, Erik ten Hag, defended his decision to leave Marcus Rashford on the bench for their 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace, calling the critics’ anger “ludicrous.”

No matter that Rashford had scored three goals in his last two games, Alejandro Garnacho, Joshua Zirkzee, and Amad Diallo were put in front of him early on.

Even so, the Red Devils’ lackluster play made it hard for them to turn control into goals, and their missed chances at Selhurst Park let the hosts tie the game even though they weren’t playing their best.

One person who questioned Ten Hag’s decision to leave Rashford out was Jamie Redknapp of Sky Sports. He thought that there might have been other factors at play.

“It feels like something has gone wrong,” Redknapp said. “I don’t know the specifics.” You don’t put a man on the bench, though, when he scored two goals against Southampton and in the middle of the week.

“He looks like the Rashford from two years ago, but I wouldn’t say he’s back.” It seems like something happened this week, even if the boss is mad. It’s not often that a boss turns down players because of how they live.

Ten Hag has done it a few times, but Sir Alex Ferguson would never have. It doesn’t always help the players.

Ten Hag then got angry and told Redknapp and other people who agreed with the former Liverpool player, “The speculation from such pundits is crazy.”
