Hugo Weaving, who played the role of Frank Harkness, a former member of the military who is both extremely deadly and shifty, was the portrayal of the main antagonist in the fourth season of Slow Horses. After making a number of surprising revelations and threats against the MI5 and other intelligence organisations throughout the world, the character proved to be one of the most significant thorns in the sides of the Slow Horses to this day. In fact, he was so successful that he appeared to even be able to walk away when everything was said and done. Given the nature of the cliffhanger conclusion, it is perhaps not surprising that Weaving will be returning for the fifth season of Slow Horses, which is expected to premiere sometime between the middle and the end of the year 2025.

Weaving has confirmed this in an interview with Variety, where he also says that he will be returning to London in January for a shoot that will last for two and a half months. It is somewhat unexpected to learn that further filming is required, especially considering that we have already seen a trailer for the next set of episodes.

Weaving makes a passing reference to and provides a brief explanation for its return by stating, “Each season is generally a book, but also each season departs a little bit from those books.” We are approaching to the point in the series ‘Slow Horshere is no release date for Slow Horses: Season 5, although Apple has a pattern of releasing one season per year, and the most recent one is just about to be released.
