How a striker with 28 goals might potentially become an £85m target for Manchester United under Ashworth’s management.

According to sources, there is speculation that Sam Jewell, Brighton and Hove Albion’s head of recruiting, may join Dan Ashworth at Manchester United. This raises the question of whether Old Trafford could soon welcome another somebody who has previously worked at The Amex Stadium.

Viktor Gyokeres, in terms of his on-field performance at Brighton, did not have the same level of influence as Ashworth and Jewell have had off the pitch. The forward made an only eight appearances, registering a solitary goal, before being transferred to Coventry City in 2021.

Although Gyokeres may not be the most prominent player when discussing Brighton’s notable signings like Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister, he is a testament to the impressive recruitment team at Brighton. Gyokeres joined the club as a teenager in 2017 for a fee of £900,000 from IF Brommapojkarna.

As reported by The Athletic, Jewell’s extensive understanding of the European market played a crucial role in Brighton’s acquisition of both Gyokeres and fellow Scandinavian Leo Ostigaard. Currently, the latter is playing for Napoli, the reigning champions of Italy. Meanwhile, the former player is developing into one of the most productive and well-rounded center-forwards in the continent. Jewell’s confidence in Gyokeres is well deserved, even if it appears that not everyone at The Amex has the same view.
