The life of a professional tennis player is something that Facundo Diaz Acosta adores, but there is a part of him that wishes he could experience what it would be like to live a “normal” life as a 23-year-old.

“I would like to be able to go to university and all the things that happen in campus, groups of friends, parties, and everything that a guy my age goes through,” confessed the champion of the ATP 250 of Buenos Aires in an interview with CLAY in Santiago de Chile, shortly after winning his first professional title. “I would like to be able to go through all of those things.”

His worship for Gabriela Sabatini, the memories of those training sessions during the epidemic with a mattress as a rival, and his desire to be in Paris 2024 to finish the Olympic journey that began in the Youth Olympic Games in 2018 were all topics that were discussed by the Argentine.

Discussing the situation with Facundo Diaz Acosta

Is that picture of you holding the trophy at the Argentina Open while smiling broadly and standing next to Gabriela Sabatini? Have you been more content with your victory in Buenos Aires, or have you been more content with the fact that you were posing next to such a tennis legend?

Gaby is a great person inside and out. Her accomplishments in the sport of tennis are equally remarkable. A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to get the chance to meet her. Gaby is a legend in the world of Argentine sports, and the fact that I was able to speak with her and make contact with her is just a fantastic experience all around. Whenever I do well in a competition, she sends me notes, and it is wonderful to have news from her. We typically communicate from time to time. Her words are always really encouraging. To tell you the truth, she comes off as a little bit shocking to me. You are aware of the fact that she watches all of the Argentine players, no doubt about it. To have an icon of the sport who is supporting each and every one of us to the fullest extent is just remarkable. The fact that she exudes something unique and that everyone adores her is enough to tell you everything there is to know about her. People have a great deal of affection for her, she is a person who is a ten out of ten, and she inspires a great deal of admiration in others.

After you won the title in Buenos Aires, did anyone else who was very interested in you write you a letter?

It is true that I have gotten a great number of kind letters from tennis players and former tennis players. It is a great deal, in fact. You can see that they are fans of tennis and that they are interested in the sport. This is a positive sign. All of them, including Delpo, Rey David (Nalbandian), El Mago (Guilermo Coria), and a great deal. I don’t want to overlook any of them in my memory.
