Gabriela Sabatini, among her good wishes for Nadal and Muchova and Garcia as favourite players

PARIS: Gabriela Sabatini walks through Roland Garros, leaving people with their mouths open. Is it really her? How has she been kept in such great shape? She’s almost as fit as she was when she played!

Sabatini laughs at the signs that she is 53 years old and leaves a comment that makes people even more shocked: when she plays in the French Open Tennis Legends event again this week, her game will be better than it was in 2022.

He told CLAY in Paris, “Yeah, I think I’m a little bit better this year.” He was the US Open winner in 1990.

That says a lot because the former world number three played a lot more tennis than anyone thought she would in 2022 when she played doubles with Gisela Dulko, who is also her partner this year. This is especially true considering she didn’t play tennis for almost 25 years.

That doesn’t mean she stopped playing sports, though. Not at all. Sabatini, who moved to Zurich a few years ago to start her world travels, has become so crazy about cycling that she rides in the Tour de France for amateurs.

Even though the Argentine stopped playing tennis 27 years ago, her charm is still there. She’s not used to play tennis; she’s a star. They can vouch for Mariano Zabaleta and Juan Mónaco, two former players who now coach the Argentine. They arrived at Roland Garros this morning with bags full of the newest Lacoste clothes that Sabatini will wear this Tuesday in the doubles match against Nathalie Tauziat of France and Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.

A chat with Gabriela Sabatini – What would you change about the rules of tennis if you could?
– They’re trying to add new features and speed up the game, which I think is good for the fans because it makes it more fun. Some of the times have been cut. Tennis has a history, so you have to be careful about what you change. I don’t know what else they might change.

– How are you getting ready for the Legends Tournament at Roland Garros? Are you better than you were last year?
– Thanks to not stopping to play since last year, I think I’m a little better this year…Are you excited about tennis again?
– Not that I was excited, but a few things took place. It was the show in Buenos Aires with Rafa Nadal and Casper Ruud that kept me playing. I kept playing, and they asked us to come back this year for the show, which we gladly accepted. Yes, you are feeling better. You realize how hard tennis is when you realize how long it takes to get better and in shape.

– That mixed doubles match you played with Nadal in Buenos Aires must have been great, right? In six months, Nadal will have surgery and try to get back on the tour in time for the 2024 season. Do you think he can play tennis again?
– I hope so! Not even he, I think, wouldn’t know because it will rest on his evolution a lot on when and if he can recover. That’s what will make a big difference. He’s doing everything he can to get back, so he wants to. It would be great to see him more often.
