Gabriel Agbonlahor Sounds Off on Ollie Watkins Sudden Departure from England Squad

The Premier League season hasn’t started for Ollie Watkins at Aston Villa as quickly as he would have wanted in the first few weeks.

The 28-year-old did not play in the preseason after representing England at Euro 2024, but he has not scored in his first three outings for Aston Villa.

It should be mentioned that Watkins missed Villa’s last preseason match against Borussia Dortmund due to a minor injury.

Maybe that’s why Watkins hasn’t been playing well for Villa, and there have been suggestions that he be benched when Premier League play resumes following the international break.

In spite of this, following Gareth Southgate’s departure, Lee Carsley, the new acting England manager, selected him for his first squad.

However, Watkins, Cole Palmer of Chelsea, and Phil Foden of Manchester City withdrew from the team, according to a post made by Sky Sports.

Unai Emery’s team will play Everton following the international break, and then Villa will play in the Champions League. The games will add up.

Gabby Agbonlahor appeared relieved that Watkins had withdrawn for this reason.
