According to reports, Graham Potter declined an Ajax employment offer.

The 48-year-old has been unemployed since Chelsea fired him in April of last year, but in recent months, Manchester United and other teams have expressed interest in him returning to management.

Sky Sports claims that Potter was Ajax’s “prime target” to take over as interim head coach in the summer, but the former Brighton manager turned them down. Ajax and Potter have since spoken. It is known that Potter wishes to play football in England again and that he will look at offers from overseas leagues after exhausting all Premier League possibilities.

Ajax is coming to the end of a campaign that has been absolutely brutal. With just 12 victories from their 29 league games, they are currently ranked sixth in the Eredivisie and are headed for their lowest finish since 1965. They suffered a 6-0 loss to Feyenoord on Sunday, which ranks as the club’s third-biggest loss ever.

After four straight losses in five games, the Dutch powerhouses fired manager Maurice Steijn in October. Van ‘t Schip took over as interim manager while they looked for Steijn’s permanent replacement.

Potter had a terrible seven months at Stamford Bridge, but considering the difficulties faced by his successor, Mauricio Pochettino, it doesn’t seem nearly as bad in retrospect. In his 31 games in charge, he had 12 wins and 11 losses. The Blues finished the season in 12th place in the Premier League, which was their lowest result since 1994.

After successful stints as manager at Brighton, Swansea, and Ostersund in Sweden, this was the first time Potter underperformed as a manager. Despite his reputation being damaged, the coach who was born in Solihull is in no way compromised.
