Former Manchester United target Justin Bijlow on verge of move to Southampton

Before the weekend, Southampton is optimistic that they may sign Justin Bijlow, a previous target of Manchester United.

The 26-year-old Dutch custodian has played eight times for his country and is currently in his seventh season at Feyenoord.

But the keeper has started the first three games of the season as a substitute for his team.

Andre Onana was the subject of “concrete interest” from United before to the player’s summer signing.

The Dutchman kept getting linked to a move to Old Trafford even after making a move for the Cameroonian, but Altay Bayindir’s transfer on deadline day eliminated the club’s need for a new keeper.

According to HITC, “Premier League newcomers Southampton are confident that, following prior interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, they can seal a potential £10 million deal for Feyenoord custodian Justin Bijlow before the weekend.”

They are reportedly optimistic of finalising a deal before their match on Saturday against Nottingham Forest, having already submitted their bid.

He “has appeared in almost 150 games for his hometown team.” He played a significant role in Feyenoord’s 2022–2023 Eredivisie winning campaign, led by Arne Slot.

However, those ties have since faded. The custodian was reportedly “under consideration to reunite with Slot at Anfield earlier in the summer.”

Bijlow earlier acknowledged that “there was contact (with United)” and stated, “I want to achieve the highest achievable in my career,” in reference to his ties to United. We shall observe for ourselves at that point.

Given the large influx of Dutch or Eredivisie-based players and coaches over the last three summers, if he does well in the Premier League, there may still be room for him to eventually transfer to Old Trafford.

Given that Bayindir’s long-term status at the team is also uncertain, it’s possible that the Red Devils will eventually make a run at the Feyenoord player.
