Explained: Why Antony is staying at Man Utd despite pushing for Turkey exit on loan

It has been reported that Antony would remain at Manchester United, despite a last-minute bid to send him on loan to Turkey.

A bench was made for Antony.
Though he has been linked to a loan move to Turkey, United is refusing to allow him leave.

The 24-year-old has found it difficult to fit into Erik ten Hag’s first-team plans at United this year. His single appearance thus far was a late substitute against Brighton in the 89th minute, raising concerns about his future with the team. According to reports, the former Ajax player desired a loan in order to get consistent playing time. He was being pursued by a number of teams, notably Fenerbahce, who are managed by former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho. Turkey’s transfer window is still open through September 13.Even though more teams are interested in signing Antony, according to The Daily Mail, United is growing less likely to let him go. Since many of Manchester United’s top scorers—Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, Facundo Pellistri, and Omari Forson—have already left this summer, the team doesn’t have a lot of wide players to select from. Antony’s chances of obtaining a loan move to Turkey have significantly decreased as a result.

Two years ago, they paid a hefty sum of money—£85 million ($111 million)—to get Antony from Ajax. Ten Hag, though, has decided to concentrate on other wingers in his system. Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo have both been selected for wide attacking positions thus far this season, giving Antony little opportunity to demonstrate his abilities.

It will take a lot of work for Antony to regain his manager’s confidence and turn around his disastrous United career thus far. Manchester United’s next Premier League matchup comes against Southampton this Saturday. Though we’re not sure yet, Antony might receive some playing time.
