Ex-Man Utd star once ‘adopted’ by Cristiano Ronaldo ordered to serve prison time over huge child maintenance debt
Anderson, a former Manchester United player, has been sentenced to jail in Brazil for failing to pay child support.
Anderson, who played alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United, faces a jail sentence in Brazil as well as a significant child support bill.
A family court in Porto Alegre has told Anderson that if he does not pay the £45,000 (£58,000) he owes, he may face jail time. If the 31-year-old former Manchester United footballer fails to pay his child support bill, he will face 30 days in jail. Anderson’s remark advocates for a “closed regime,” although if space is restricted, a “semi-open” regime may be feasible. This would allow him to return to prison at night to sleep while working or studying during the daytime.
Anderson joined Manchester United from Porto in 2007 and spent eight years with the club, winning four Premier League titles, the League Cup, and the Champions League. The Brazilian midfielder, who played with Ronaldo at Old Trafford, has previously revealed how the Portugal legend supported and virtually “adopted” him while he was a part of the squad.
He remarked to Globo, “I am quite grateful to him. I was adopted by him. For more than a year, Nani and I (Anderson) lived in Ronaldo’s house. We departed because we were prepared to go.
“We might have remained there for him. We made no purchases. The man fed us, prepared our meals, and drove us to our training. The home featured a tennis court, a jacuzzi, and an outdoor swimming pool.
If Anderson pays his delinquent child support, the judge will revoke his arrest warrant. Anderson is 36 years old. If not, he will be imprisoned in Brazil’s Irmao Miguel Dario Prison for a while.
