According to a national media outlet’s early preseason quarterback rankings, Clemson Tigers quarterback Cade Klubnik is the best signal caller in the country going into the spring.

“Pro Football Focus” According to Max Chadwick, Klubnik is “the top returning quarterback in college football after making a massive jump as a junior” and is “a rising senior.”

Klubnik had a passing grade of 87.7 PFF at the end of the 2024 season. He did better than in 2023, when he had a grade of just 63,9.

“He placed fifth in 2024 with an 87.7 score, after finishing 102nd among FBS signal-callers in 2023 with a 63.9 PFF passing grade. The only two quarterbacks who threw more touchdowns than the junior (36), Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders, are both anticipated to be among the top five chosen in the 2025 NFL Draft. He noted, “Klubnik also finished fifth in big-time throws (28).”

Klubnik completed 63.4% of his passes for 3,639 yards, 36 touchdowns, and six interceptions during his stellar junior campaign. In addition, he ran for seven touchdowns and a career-high 463 yards.

Clemson defeated SMU on a last-second field goal to get to the ACC championship game, and the Tigers are coming off a 10-4 season. With that victory, the Tigers were able to return to the College Football Playoff, which for the first time now had 12 teams.

Some of the names on the list are ones that Tigers supporters are either familiar with or will become familiar with this season. According to projections, Clemson will play two of the top quarterbacks in 2025.

Among returning quarterbacks, LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was ranked fifth by PFF. That is significant because the Tigers’ first game is against LSU at Memorial Stadium on August 30.

The son of former collegiate standout and current NFL coach Doug Nussmeier, Nussmeier completed his college education at LSU before waiting three years to be a full-time starter for the Tigers. After Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels left for the NFL, he took over.

He finished fifth in the nation last season with 4.043 passing yards.

This season, Clemson also visits Memorial Stadium to play SMU. Kevin Jennings, who starts the spring ranked eighth on Chadwick’s list, is a member of the Pony Express. The Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game will be played again.

In the championship game, Jennings threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns, a yeoman’s effort. In addition, he scored another touchdown with his legs and gained 35 yards on the ground.
