Bruno Fernandes is the only current Manchester United player who comes even somewhat close to being a superstar, according to a former Premier League manager. However, even he would be “putting the cones down and handing out bibs” if he were playing during the time of Sir Alex Ferguson. After the departure of famous manager Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United has been in a period of decline, and the club has not been able to win either the Premier League or the Champions League since the Scot went into retirement in 2013. Manchester United have fielded its fair share of superstars during that time period, including the likes of Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba, Angel Di Maria, Alexis Sanchez, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Cristiano Ronaldo, among others. Wayne Rooney has also played for Manchester United. At least according to Harry Redknapp, Bruno Fernandes, the captain of the club, is the player that comes the closest to being similar to a great of the game that Ruben Amorim now possesses. However, despite the fact that the Portuguese player was selected as the best of the bunch, former manager Redknapp asserted that Fernandes would not even come close to replacing players such as Paul Ince, Roy Keane, or Paul Scholes from the best days of Manchester United’s history. Redknapp made the following statement in his column for the Sun: “You’d look at the United of Fergie’s day and see superstars everywhere.” Amorim would be thrilled to have only one. The closest player is Bruno Fernandes, and even then, he is only awarded a spot on the squad. ‘He would not have a chance in hell of being selected for the team. To whom would you give up? Darren Fletcher, Nicky Butt, Scholes, David Beckham, Roy Keane, Paul Ince, and even Ryan Giggs and Scholes are all names that come to mind. Absolutely not a possibility. In the event that Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a difficult time getting a game, Fernandes would not go beyond putting the cones down and handing out bibs. I’ll tell you what, if Bruno and the rest of the team had been at United when I was managing, I would have a far better understanding of how to win at Old Trafford. Harry Redknapp gets put in his place at the hands of Bruno Fernandes. A copy of Redknapp’s column was distributed prior to the match between Manchester United and Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday. And like Fernandes does so frequently for Manchester United, he delivered when it mattered the most to hammer what could be the final nail in the coffin that is Arsenal’s hopes of winning the football championship. When the halftime break was drawing near, Fernandes opened the score with a magnificent free kick that he flicked past David Raya, who was stretching to his fullest extent. The excellent set piece that the attacker created may be seen down below.
