BREAKING NEWS ;;Aston Villa ‘still working’ to sign £25m defender amid Liverpool hesitation

Aston Villa are continuing their efforts to sign an international defender who was prominently connected with Liverpool earlier this summer.
The Villans are allegedly still looking to sign Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida.

Unai Emery is determined to strengthen his defence, particularly on the right side. Geertruida’s versatility as a centre-back, right-back, and defensive midfielder is valued, and his technical and physical abilities make him an excellent all-rounder.

According to ESPN Netherlands, Villa are still in talks with Feyenoord about signing Geertruida, despite the fact that their assessments of the defender differ significantly. Feyenoord are asking for roughly €35 million (£30 million), but Villa believe they can have him for less.

It is also noted that, while no progress has been made towards a conclusion, both teams will continue to negotiate. Geertruida’s current deal expires in less than a year, thus Villa could conceivably lure Feyenoord with a lower offer.

Earlier in the transfer window, The Mirror reported that Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were competing to sign Geertruida, while Red Bull Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain were also interested. Speculation has died down on all fronts for the aforementioned teams, but there is nothing to suggest that desire will be revived.

According to the source, new Liverpool manager Arne Slot was very interested in signing Geertruida but hesitated since he did not want his first purchase to be Dutch. The Reds have yet to bolster their defence and might possibly return for Geertruida. For the time being, however, everything has been very quiet.

The 24-year-old, who has 11 caps for the Netherlands, has made 272 appearances for Feyenoord in all competitions. Geertruida has appeared in the Champions League six times, the Europa League 18 times, and the Europa Conference League 12 times.
