Barkley stars on debut as Eagles beat Packers in Brazil

In the first National Football League game to be played in South America, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Green Bay Packers by a score of 34-29. Saquon Barkley scored three touchdowns in his first game with the Eagles.

At the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo, Barkley ran 24 times for 109 yards and two touchdowns, and he also caught two passes for 23 yards and a touchdown. Barkley’s statistical performance was impressive.


The 27-year-old player, who came to the Eagles from the New York Giants during the offseason, is only the second player in Eagles history to score three touchdowns on their first game with the team, following in the footsteps of Terrell Owens in 2004.

Barkley stated, “It was really important for me to just get going,” explaining his motivation. “I just needed that first tackle to get me going again.”


The NFL regular-season game that took place on Friday was the first of five games that will be played outside of the United States this season. Three of those games will be played in London in the month of October.In a nail-biting game that had seven different leads, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts completed 20 of 34 passes for 278 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. The game saw seven different lead changes.


Prior to being forced off the field with an ankle injury late in the game, his counterpart for the Packers, Jordan Love, completed half of his 34 throws for 260 yards, two touchdown passes, and an interception.

According to Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown, who had five receptions for 119 yards and one score, “It was a good game, back and forth,” Brown remarked while describing the game.

 

“A lot of things were going to go wrong because it’s the first game but we made adjustments and it just came down to making plays.”
