Aston Villa handed major injury boost ahead of first Champions League match with Young Boys

Leon Bailey and his team have gone to Switzerland to play Young Boys in Aston Villa’s first Champions League league group match.

The winger hurt his hamstring in the first half of Villa’s 2-1 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium more than two weeks ago. He tried to block a pass, but his hamstring gave out, and he had to come off.

Bailey then chose not to play for the Jamaican national team, so he missed Villa’s win over Everton at Villa Park on Saturday. Villa boss Unai Emery didn’t say for sure that Bailey wouldn’t make the team in his press conference before the Premier League game against Everton. However, the 27-year-old wasn’t named in the team after a late evaluation.

Emery is going to talk to the media at the Wankdorf Stadium later today. He might give an update on Bailey, who looks like he will be joining the team again.

It’s great news for Villa, who play Wolves this coming Saturday after their game against Young Boys on Tuesday night.

Everton lost 3-2 to Villa the last time they played, and Jhon Duran came off the bench to finish the comeback. After Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin put Sean Dyche’s team ahead in the 27th minute, Ollie Watkins scored twice to level the score.

After six league games, Young Boys still hasn’t won and is at the bottom of the Swiss Super League. A fake field will be used when the Swiss winners play Villa, so Emery’s players will train on it today to get ready for the game.
