During yesterday’s Championship match at Turf Moor, an allegation of racial abuse was directed at a Watford player. The Lancashire Police are currently conducting an investigation into the matter.

The Clarets, who emerged victorious in the match by a score of 2-1, issued a club statement in which they invited the public to provide testimony and stated that they “will ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”

“Burnley Football Club is deeply concerned by allegations of abuse directed towards a Watford player during the first half of today’s fixture at Turf Moor,” the statement also added. “The football club is deeply concerned by these allegations.”

“Discrimination has absolutely no place in football or society and we condemn such behaviour in the strongest possible terms.”

Outside of the club, Watford FC stated, “Watford FC will be offering its fullest support to the player towards whom the alleged abuse was directed.” Watford requested anyone who may have information to come forward.
