A surprising meeting between Ferrari and a potential replacement for Lewis Hamilton has taken place.

According to Fred Vasseur, the coach of the Ferrari squad, Carlos Sainz is not completely out of the question for a potential future comeback to the club.

During the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which took place over the weekend, Sainz’s four-year tenure at Ferrari came to an end. The Spaniard was unable to continue his career with Ferrari because of a series of tragic events that resulted in him losing his drive for the upcoming season.

F1 is a pretty small world, according to Fred Vasseur.

As Sainz entered the Formula One 2024 season, he was already aware that his career with Ferrari would come to an end after this season. This was due to the fact that the Scuderia had chosen to recruit Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula One World Champion, on a three-year contract.

Due to the fact that Sainz was the only driver who did not compete for Red Bull in Formula One 2023, he had been attempting to secure a contract extension and appeared to be in an excellent position to do so.

At the end of January, Ferrari made the announcement that Hamilton would be joining the Scuderia for the 2025 season, partnering him with Charles Leclerc, who had previously signed a contract with the team. However, the unexpected availability of Hamilton was too much to pass up for Ferrari.

Sainz was left out in the cold as a result of this move; however, the relationship between Sainz and Ferrari remained strong as he refused to criticize the team for the move. He stated that he fully understood the appeal of signing Hamilton and bringing together the most successful driver in Formula One with the most historic and successful team in the sport.

Sainz has now signed a contract to bring him to Williams for the upcoming season, but the idea of him returning to Ferrari is not completely out of the question. Sainz took a period of six months to review his future with the intention of bringing him to Williams.

As a result of the fact that Hamilton will turn 40 before his first race with the Scuderia, the British driver is far closer to the conclusion of his career than he is to the beginning. If the conditions allow it in the future, Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur has stated that the possibilities are unlimited.

During an interview with the Spanish channel DAZN, Vasseur discussed the potential that Sainz may still be considered for the position open.

Without a doubt. “This is something that we have already discussed on a few occasions,” he stated.

There are a lot of people in this globe. The number of teams is limited to ten, and there are only six or seven top drivers. It is impossible to predict what will occur in the future; nonetheless, the majority of us, including Carlos on his side and us on our side, are required to concentrate on the tasks that we are working on.

“We have no idea what will take place in the years 2027, 2028, or 2029…”
