A-Rod s Monument Park Induction: A Symbol of Forgiveness or Controversy?

NEW YORK Alex Rodriguez was wearing a New York Yankees jersey for the first time since August 12, 2016. Derek Jeter, Rodriguez’s former teammate, made a joke about his wearing his old Yankees uniform everywhere around his house.

Rodriguez debuted on Saturday on Yankees Old-Timers’ Day, an event honouring the team that won the World Series in 2009. Given his rocky past with the team, the three-time American League MVP expressed surprise at receiving the offer. Upon discovering it, Rodriguez promptly informed his daughters, Natasha and Ella, that their father would receive recognition from the league where he claimed his lone championship during his 22-year career.

“It’s nice to be back in the fold,” the former third baseman remarked of his non-broadcast return to Yankee Stadium. Naturally, Rodriguez’s warm welcome home raised the question of whether this was a sign that he would one day be honoured in Monument Park.

Rodriguez was a vital member of the 2009 championship team and currently stands sixth all-time in home runs and seventh all-time in fWAR for the franchise. However, his tenure with the organisation was marred when he sued Yankees team doctor Christopher Ahmad for malpractice after being suspended for using performance-enhancing drugs. In the end, Rodriguez threw out the lawsuit and acknowledged that his actions were improper.
