A pundit has stated that Manchester United would not sign a £28 million player who he describes as “outstanding” and compares to Salah.

Gabby Agbonlahor, the ex-captain of Aston Villa, believes that even if Manchester United expressed interest in signing Ollie Watkins, a talented English player, there is no justification for Aston Villa, a successful team in the Premier League, to sell him.

While there is ongoing speculation about the future of Brentford’s Ivan Toney, another one of Gareth Southgate’s prolific English strikers is noticeably absent from the gossip columns.

Although top clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United are all searching for a new center-forward, Ollie Watkins’s name has received little attention.

Agbonlahor asserts that there exists a highly valid justification for that. Indeed, this Aston Villa team is now experiencing an upward trajectory, as they are still in the running for a spot in the Champions League, despite their recent defeat against Tottenham Hotspur. This is mostly due to the financial support of their billionaire owners, who have the resources to support the club’s aspirations.

Villa received a substantial amount of money, amounting to hundreds of millions, via the sale of their team captain, Jack Grealish, to Manchester City in 2021. Considering that Watkins still has four years remaining on his current deal, it is likely that Villa would require a substantial amount, perhaps £100 million, in order to consider selling him.
