A Coach s Dilemma: Why Pep Guardiola is Willing to Risk it All for This Player

According to reports, Pep Guardiola has his eye on a specific Manchester United player.
Both Manchester clubs have made several attempts to sign the same player throughout the years.

At the time, Manchester United was commended for taking the lead in the competition to sign players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Fred, Alexis Sanchez, Harry Maguire, and others who were thought to be targets for Manchester City. But in each of these instances, the blue side of the city triumphed.

Maguire has been at Old Trafford for an absolutely appalling amount of time. Ronaldo, Sanchez, and Fred have all had dismal seasons.

However, Manchester City is known for doing well in the commercial world, and with Pep Guardiola’s stature at the Etihad Stadium and their four consecutive Premier League wins, they would love to reward him with his ideal acquisitions.

Pep Guardiola’s rationale for believing Manchester United is a target Jarrad Branthwaite
The Red Devils are still thought to be maybe the biggest football team in England, despite not being the formidable squad that they once were.

This suggests that some players are still attracted to the opportunity to play for one of the biggest football teams simply because of their status.

Nevertheless, United has every right to be worried if City enters the picture in their player hunt given that their cross-town rivals are the greatest in English football.

According to The Sun, Manchester United boss Pep Guardiola is reportedly considering a move for Jarrad Branthwaite, a player Erik ten Hag would prefer to see Manchester United recruit in the summer, even if the team is successful in finalising the signing of Matthijs de Ligt.

Guardiola is reportedly “impressed” with Branthwaite’s ability to play out of the back and his defensive skills.

The 22-year-old’s current estimated net worth is £80 million, which is more than the June claim, per the story. From within, Everton believes that he is a defender who should attract sums similar to those of players like Harry Maguire (estimated at £80 million by BBC Sport), Wesley Fofana (paid £75 million by Chelsea in 2022) and Josko Gvardiol (who signed with Manchester City for £77.6 million).

Manchester City does not always need Jarrad Branthwaite.
Even though Branthwaite is an excellent centre-back, it is unexpected that Pep Guardiola is considering buying him unless Manchester City intends to trade a defender.

John Stones is an English centre back with a history of injuries, so if the objective at Etihad Stadium was to let him go, there would be a strong case to be made for the player.

The young youngster doesn’t seem to need to join them because Stones, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake, and Josko Gvardiol aren’t associated with any departures this summer.

especially considering that the Sky Blues are being asked to spend an astounding £80 million on fixing a player who isn’t even close to being a priority.
