Three-club, four-player trade potentially in the works as Power star’s preference is revealed: AFL trade news

There are rumours of a trade agreement in the works between Collingwood, Port Adelaide, and Gold Coast that would involve the exchange of four players and several draft picks.

Concerning the futures of Joe Richards, John Noble, Jack Lukosius, and Daniel Houston—all of whom are considering moves abroad this off-season—the Magpies, Power, and Suns have been in close communication.

While teammate Noble is planning to relocate to Queensland, Lukosius is looking to leave in favor of also going to Alberton, and Richards has sought a trade to Port Adelaide. The Magpies, Blues, and Kangaroos have expressed interest in Houston, who is eager to move to Victoria.

With Houston apparently wanting a transfer to Collingwood that might spark an agreement, a deal that sees all three teams gain players and desired draft money shift hands to appease certain sides could unleash numerous trade wishes at once.

The Age reports that the two-time All-Australian is considering joining the Magpies in an attempt to return to his home state. If he makes this move, it may allow the Power to sign both Lukosius and Richards.Collingwood reportedly offered Gold Coast their first-round picks and Noble in 2025 in return for Picks 13 and 23, but the Suns rejected that deal. In an attempt to get Houston, the Magpies intend to move Pick 13 and Richards onto the Power, but it is anticipated that the South Australian club will not be satisfied with that deal either.

It’s been reported that the Magpies are eager to keep onto Pick 23 and use that pick in the draft.

Despite the players coming in from both sides, a trade including all four players, the Suns’ two selections, and Collingwood’s potential first-round pick may require further picks to go to Gold Coast and Port Adelaide.

In light of the potential compensation the team will receive for losing Houston, an agreed-upon deal would allow the Power to avoid giving up their future first-round selection in order to acquire Lukosius.

Port Adelaide has not used an early selection in the previous two years, thus AFL approval is required before they can transfer their 2025 first-round pick. The team’s plans to be able to part with that selection have been eased by the recent addition of former No. 1 draft pick Jason Horne-Francis, and Houston’s departure should further improve their prospects.

The Suns and Richmond are negotiating a trade for Daniel Rioli, and Pick 23 may be involved as well, which complicates a move involving the Magpies and Power.

Though it is anticipated that the Tigers would select Rioli with Pick 6, the Punt Road team is also rumored to be interested in obtaining another draft pick from the Suns.
