Collingwood coach Craig McRae gave an update on the Magpies’ plans to trade players this off-season. He confirmed that the club is no longer considering trading for Essendon’s Jake Stringer, even though they are still looking to bring in players through next month’s window.

In the past few weeks, Stringer’s skills have become more desirable after the former Bulldog was told he could look elsewhere if he wanted a longer contract.

This season, the experienced forward activated a one-year extension for 2025. He is said to want a multi-year deal, but the Bombers aren’t ready to give it to him yet.

Stringer now has to look at his choices on the open market. Collingwood and Sydney are both interested in the active attacker.

While the Magpies were interested at first, they have since lost interest. McRae said Stringer will not be wearing the black and white next year because of this.

“We looked at it when it came across our desk and saw that Jake Stringer hadn’t signed it.” “You look at how deep it goes,” McRae told SEN on Wednesday.

“But I’m happy to say that Jake Stringer won’t be coming to our football club.” Before we hired him, we looked into his background, salary, and length of service to see where he fits on our list.Next year, he won’t be coming to Collingwood.

The Magpies are interested in GWS free agent Harry Perryman. The defending premiers are making a late push to try and beat out other interested teams, including Port Adelaide.

Perryman would not cost the team anything in deal because he is a free agent, and McRae reiterated his desire to prioritize players over picks as part of his plan to get back into the running for the premiership.

“In fact, we’re interested in Harry,” McRae said.

“I’m a coach looking for players.” I said that at the end of the season. It’s really tough to fish in the same pond for a market.

“But I need players, not picks.” We need players who will help us get better, not just any players. We’re thinking about that a bit.

“We think Harry can make us better and we’re hoping we can put a case to him that he thinks Collingwood is the place for him.”
