Man City handed Premier League relegation verdict by lawyer as Aston Villa

The famous sports lawyer who helped Leicester City in their recent dispute with the Premier League has said that he thinks Manchester City should not be relegated by people who make decisions off the field.

Nick De Marco KC, who is known for helping Newcastle United with their takeover in 2021 and keeping Leicester City from getting in trouble with the Premier League this season, says that points deductions should only be used as a last option. An outside group agreed with De Marco and said that the Premier League had no right to charge Leicester City with financial violations because they were not members at the time (they had just been relegated to the Championship). But now that 130 accusations have been made against Manchester City, the possible punishments seem endless. Premier League rivals Aston Villa and Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the situation.

The hearing for City’s case against the Premier League began on Monday. The league has the power to fine and dock points, as well as the option to suggest relegation based on a vote of its members.

Manchester City, whose lawyers are led by Lord Pannick KC, are still sure that things won’t get so bad. They deny all the accusations and promise to prove their innocence “once and for all.”

Even though the current rules are fair, De Marco says it isn’t “right” for a club to be kicked out of a league for reasons other than how well they play.
